By mixing snow, sugar, evaporated milk, %26amp; vanilla? I wonder if the sugar could be omitted by using sweetened condensed milk? And chocolate syrup instead of vanilla?Does anyone still make ice cream out of snow?
Yes! I make it every year when we get our first snow. I just use vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk. I put a big bowl on the back porch on a table and when it's full we have Ice cream. It's delicious and one of the best things about winter. %26lt;smile%26gt; sending you a little snow wish for Christmas ******Does anyone still make ice cream out of snow?
My Mom used to make that all the time, We called it snow cream, and sometimes instead of vanilla she would use hershey cocoa so we could have chocolate snow cream. I wonder how many kids know about that today. We were tickled to death when it snowed she woukd send us out to get some clean snow for snow cream, .We always had to wait for the second snow, because they said the first snow had too many polluants .
When I was young and living back East, we did this when it snowed...mom always picked up some half %26amp; half to make it. My kids were raised in the desert. As youngsters, they only saw snow once or twice.
But I remember once there was snow in our area that lasted about 24 hours. That was the year we had no whipped cream on our pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving because I figured letting the boys make snow ice cream was much more important.
It's been a long time since I have, but when and if it snows here I will sure try to. We thought that was the grandest thing when we were kids for our parents to make snow ice cream, sooo good.
Yes, but only from fresh fallen snow in my back yard------free of animals and the such. Oh it is very good. I normally fix it about 4 times a year. We get a lot of the white stuff here. It's really very tasty.
Yes and the grandkids love to make it too.The sweetened condensed milk would be a new twist and I bet the chocolate would be good.Good suggestion.
Tried with that salt method, never heard of this one! Cool!
But yes, be careful where you get your snow :D Don't want any natural flavorings courtesy of our animal friends.
And the pollutants... Hmmm...
MY HUSBAND SAID INSTEAD OF USING EITHER MILK OR WATER , YOU USE SNOW...
YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD MORE SWEETENER..

OMG!!! I didn't think anyone knew about that. I used to do that when I was younger. But not now. I worry to much about the pollutants in the air.
Yes, we make it every year ! I love using Splenda now, because it is lighter than sugar and saves on the calories !
I've heard about that, but here in Canada, we tap the maple trees and mix the syrup with snow. Soooo good.
I haven't since we were kids and my mom made it and I wasn't wild about it!!!
My friend out on Long Island does that
yea but if you did this it would be less sweet
Back in the day, you made sure it was the second snow before making it due to pollutants. Heck we breath polluted air all the time, drink water that has chemicals in it, and Lord knows what else. We kids ate snow ice cream every year, and we are are still here. I am searching for my mom's recipe to see if she used sweetened condensed milk. If I find it, I'll let you know. I can't find mom's recipe but I did find this online. Can't attest to how good it is, but worth trying I suppose.
SNOW ICE CREAM
1/2 c. milk
14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
3 lg. eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 gallons (or more) very fresh, light fluffy snow
EQUIPMENT:
Saucepan with lid
Can opener
Measuring spoons
Wire whisk
Lg. mixing bowl
Electric mixer
Lg. container for snow
Put milk, sweetened condensed milk, eggs and salt in saucepan. Mix with a wire whisk until smooth. Cool over medium heat, stirring constantly with the whisk until the mixture just begins to boil. Remove from heat and add sugar and vanilla. Cover and let cool in the refrigerator.
When the mixture is about room temperature, pour it into a large mixing bowl. Add 1 quart of snow and mix. Continue adding more snow until the mixture is very thick and looks like ice cream. Be careful not to add to much snow. Serve right away. 10 servings.
